Calculation of wall formwork and climbing systems

Cost-effective solutions on the basis of wind-technological expert assessments

For the calculation of climbing protection panels and climbing formwork used for the construction of high buildings, wind loads are normally the decisive influencing factor. Through the application of wind-technological expert assessments, PERI can develop and provide optimally adapted and cost-effective solutions for its climbing systems.

DIN 1055 4:2005 allows the user to determine wind loads for wall formwork and climbing systems. This was only possible to a limited extent with the predecessor standard. The current wind load standard features a range of load cases and approaches for the calculations. However, numerous differentiations within the standard also means an increase in the work involved for the calculations; in addition, the applicability is limited. For example, the standard does not cover different influences and boundary conditions for these constructions (such as offset climbing of a protection panel). Thus, it provides an insufficient assessment basis in a number of cases. Calculations on basis of these load assumptions could finally lead to uneconomical solutions.

Alternatively, the standard allows wind-technological expert assessments (WTGA) to be used for determining the aerodynamic coefficients. Such a wind flow analysis provides the most reliable – and often the most cost-effective – result for constructions whereby the wind load has a significant or even dominating influence on the entire calculation results. Through the application of wind-technological tests, PERI GmbH achieves economical calculation results for its climbing systems which go beyond the standard itself. Furthermore, it has the advantage of international validity and usability.
