Asian Games Main Stadium, Pusan, Korea
Three months construction time saved
34 m high spectator stand beams for 80,000 seats
Korea is equipping itself for the “14th Asian Games” and the soccer World Cup in 2002 with this new stadium in Pusan, the second largest city in the country.
Five spectator levels rest on massive spectator stand beams of up to 34.10 m high and 900 mm wide, that are designed as an integrated steel construction which demands a lot from those involved. The plan shape of the oval spectator stand was divided into four construction units with 18 beam types having different dimensions. There were also ring beams arranged transversely, also with different sizes, which had to be constructed.
The formwork, construction time schedule and material planning, carried out in detail by PERI, allowed the fast and reasonably economical construction of the unusual structure. The use of standard VARIO units avoided the time-consuming cutting back of formwork on site. The filler areas were perfectly closed with filler units.
Six formwork sets for the stand soffit together with MULTIPROP supporting scaffolding and two sets of VARIO for the side formwork were necessary to complete this large project.
Those involved summed up: without the PERI systems, the perfect planning and the optimum formwork design, the construction time, shortened by three months, would never have been possible.
