Palm Paper Newsprint Paper Plant, King’s Lynn, Great Britain
Synchronous and flexible formwork and scaffolding operations
Europe´s largest and most modern paper factory is located 150 km north-east of London. From 100% recycled paper fibre, it produces 20,000 m² of newsprint per minute which corresponds to a capacity of 400,000 t per year. For the realization of the 600 m long, 100 m wide and 30 m high facility, building shell construction was closely with the machine assembly operations. In particular, numerous concrete components had to be precision made - to a strict deadline.
Already 7 months after the commencement of the excavation and foundation work, a topping-out ceremony was celebrated with production starting a further 8 months later in August 2009 - in spite of the very tight schedule, complex installation work and an extensive third test phase - 3 weeks earlier than originally planned. For the in situ concrete and prefabricated construction, the experienced construction site team worked with a flexible, optimally matched PERI formwork and scaffolding solution.
With TRIO 330, the massive wall sections - 1.50 m to 2.00 m thick and 6.60 m high - could be economically constructed. Due to the low number of individual parts and the universally applicable BFD alignment coupler, the panel formwork guaranteed not only fast shuttering times. It could also be used extremely versatilely as foundation and side formwork for high beams. No less verstaile was the PERI UP Rosett modular scaffold system: finding use as safe working scaffold, stair towers and type-tested shoring.

“In my opinion, PERI UP is two-thirds faster than conventional scaffolding systems. On the one hand, we can assemble quickly and safely while, on the other, we achieve efficient construction progress through the flexibility and versatility.”
